About the Author

Samaa Abdurraqib is a writer, a poet, a bird nerd, a lover of the outdoors. She is the editor of From Root to Seed: Black, Brown, and Indigenous Poets Write the Northeast (2023). Abdurraqib currently serves as the executive director of the Maine Humanities Council. She is a former volunteer leader for Outdoor Afro and is a Maine Master Naturalist. Her chapbook, Towards a Retreat was published Diode Editions in August 2025 and awarded the 2026 Eric Hoffer Chapbook Award. Elizabeth Bradfield is a naturalist and writer who has lived and worked on Cape Cod since the late 1990s. She is the author of the poetry collections SOFAR, Once Removed, Approaching Ice, Interpretive Work and the mixed-genre Toward Antarctica as well as Theorem, a collaboration with artist Antonia Contro.Cascadia Field Guide: Art Ecology Poetry, which she created with CMarie Fuhrman and Derek Sheffield won a Pacific Northwest Book Award and several other honors. The recipient of the Audre Lorde Prize in Lesbian Poetry and a Stegner Fellowship, Bradfield is the founder of Broadsided, a monthly publication of original collaborations between writers and artists. She divides her time between her continued work as a naturalist and directing the Poetry Concentration in the low-residency MFA at Western Colorado University. Ian Ramsey is a writer and educator who is a lifelong resident of the Gulf of Maine. He is the author of the poetry collection Hackable Animal, which was a finalist for the Prism Climate Prize from Homebound Publications. His writing has appeared in Pacific Review, Off the Coast, Flyway, Terrain.org, Orion, Appalachia, Cutthroat, High Desert Journal, Deep Wild, and the anthologies Writing for Peace and Maine Voices. Ramsey is Editor-in-Chief at Wild Dog Press and has taught at North Yarmouth Academy for 25 years, where he is the founding director of the Kauffmann Program for Environmental Writing and Wilderness Exploration. He frequently collaborates with climate scientists across the Americas to communicate research to non-scientists and has lectured and done artist residencies on four continents. Ramsey is a wilderness athlete, kayak coach, and Maine Guide. He lives in Brunswick, Maine, and can be found online at ianramsey.net.
