Scorching-hot summer. Scorching-hot chemistry. Two teens can’t forget they’re just friends in this sweet, funny, electrifying romance from New York Times bestselling author Tia Williams. Perfect for fans of Jenny Han and Nicola Yoon.
MEET AUDRE. Junior class president. Debate team captain. Unofficial student therapist. Desperately in need of a good time.
MEET BASH. Mysterious new senior. Everybody’s crush. Tall, floppy, great taste in jewelry. King of having a good time.
It’s the last day of school at Cheshire Prep, Brooklyn’s elite academy—and Audre Mercy-Moore’s life is a mess. Her dad cancelled her annual summer visit to his Malibu beach house. Now? She’s stuck in a claustrophobic apartment with her mom, stepdad, and one-year-old sister (aka the Goblin Baby).
Under these conditions, she’ll never finish writing her self-help book—ie, the key to winning over Stanford’s admissions board.
Cut to Bash Henry! Audre hires him to be her “fun consultant.” His job? To help her complete the Experience Challenge—her list of five wild dares designed to give her juicy book material. She’ll get inspo; he’ll get paid. Everybody wins.
He isn’t boyfriend material. And she’s not looking for one. Can they stay professional despite their obvious connection?
Fun fact: Audre Mercy-Moore first appeared in the New York Times bestseller Seven Days in June and now stars in her own story!

Book Club Guide
- Audre ponders, “How do you let go and just…live…when you knew how every story ended?” (p. 13). If you knew the outcome of your story, would you still take the journey?
- Audre’s “Rules for Flourishing on This Dying Planet” are sprinkled throughout the book. Which rule is your favorite?
- Over the course of the book, Audre discovers her family’s history. What do we inherit from those who came before us? How do you break a generational cycle? Have Audre and Eva broken their family’s patterns completely?
- Audre and Bash both wrestle with anxiety, perfectionism, and the pressures of others’ expectations. How do they help each other work through these issues? What does it mean to trust another person with your mental health?

- Eva tells Audre, “When you were growing up, I think I treated you more like a best friend than a daughter” (p. 141). How does Eva and Audre’s relationship evolve? Is it possible for parents to be friends with their child while maintaining a parental role?
- Audre wonders, “Why else do we work so hard if not for our future?” To which Bash responds, “I’d rather be happy in the present” (p. 173). Have you ever made an impulsive decision that you knew would be detrimental to your future? If so, did you regret your decision?
- How are Audre, Bash, and Reshma impacted by societal expectations of gender and sexuality?
- For most of the book, Audre and Bash insist that they are just friends. What’s the line between friendship and romance?
- If you’ve read Seven Days in June, how does Audre change between books? How did it feel seeing Eva and Shane in their parental roles? Knowing Eva’s backstory, did you sympathize with her at moments of tension with Audre?
