Melissa Hart is the author of several fiction and nonfiction books including the award-winning middle-grade novels Avenging the Owl and Daisy Woodworm Changes the World, the memoir Wild Within: How Rescuing Owls Inspired a Family, and Better with Books: 500 Diverse Books to Ignite Empathy and Encourage Self-Acceptance in Tweens and Teens. Her articles and essays have appeared in The New York Times, Smithsonian, Nat Geo Kids, Orion, High Country News, The Washington Post, CNN, and many other publications. She’s lived in Oregon for the last 23 years and volunteers as a Master Naturalist.
